On December 20, 2017, Councilmember Schneider was elected to serve as Mayor for the 2017-18 term.

Councilmember Schneider was elected to the City Council in March 2007, re-elected in November 2011, and unanimously re-elected in November 2015. He served as Mayor for the 2013 term and from 2009-2010. Prior to that, he served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2008-2009 and on December 21, 2016, was elected once again as Mayor Pro Tem for the 2016-17 term.

Councilmember Schneider, graduated from Yale University and Case Western Reserve University, where he obtained his medical degree. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology, and he has been a partner of the Clinical Laboratory Medical Group since 1979. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists. Councilmember Schneider is a member of numerous community groups, including South Pasadena Beautiful, the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, the South Pasadena Preservation Foundation, the California Native Plant Society, the Pasadena Audubon Society, the San Gabriel Valley Bicycle Coalition; and the South Pasadena Arts Council.

Councilmember Schneider and his wife Pauline have four children—Nicole Schneider, Tamara Schneider Bhandari, Garrett Schneider, and Brandon Schneider, and five grandchildren — Dion, Donovan, Maya, Kaya, and Billy.
