Brian Solinsky, Chief of Police

Chief Brian Solinsky started his career in law enforcement with the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, following in his father’s footsteps making him a second-generation Police Officer.

In 1993, Chief Solinsky joined the South Pasadena Police Department as a Police Officer and was subsequently appointed as a Field Training Officer. By the year 2000, Chief Solinsky was promoted to the rank of Detective, and served on a Los Angeles County task force investigating organized crime. He returned to South Pasadena in 2002, where he served as a station Detective investigating a variety of crimes within the City.

Chief Solinsky was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2005 and served as both a Field Supervisor and an Assistant Watch Commander.

In 2009, Chief Solinsky was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he supervised patrol shifts. He was appointed as the Officer-in-Charge of the Professional Standards Unit in 2011. This assignment tasked him with the management of Internal Affairs, Training, Recruitment, the Reserve Officer Program, and the City’s Emergency Management Center. It was during this period that Chief Solinsky co-authored and implemented the Department’s current policy manual.

Chief Solinsky was promoted to Captain in 2015. He oversaw the Field Operations Division, which includes the Patrol and Traffic Bureaus, K9’s, Office of Professional Standards, Homeland Security, Mutual Aid, and Emergency Management. In 2018, Chief Solinsky was assigned as the Administrative Captain overseeing the Department’s Communication Center, Records, the Special Enforcement Team, and Detective Bureau.

In August of 2018, he was selected to hold the position of Interim Chief of Police for the City of South Pasadena.

Chief Solinsky was previously a member of the Board of Directors for Area C, the 10-City Mutual Aid Region that comprises the San Gabriel Valley. He is a member of various professional organizations including the California Police Chief’s Association and the Los Angeles County Chief’s of Police Association.

Chief Solinsky is married and has two children. His personal interests include traveling, golf, physical fitness, and spending time with his family. He is conversational in German and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He has lectured for both local and international law enforcement agencies in addition to private sector companies on leadership and investigations. Chief Solinsky has also authored several law enforcement editorials.  He has completed advanced course work in emergency management, counter-terrorism, and organizational management.  He has received numerous commendations and awards for his police service including the Department’s Unit Citation and Medal of Merit.

Chief Solinsky believes that it is through community-based relationships and policing that true strength of law enforcement and leadership is found.  He encourages creating and maintaining life-long partnerships with stakeholders to uphold a professional and inclusive environment.  It is with this philosophy that Chief Solinsky will lead the South Pasadena Police Department forward.
