Subject: The South Pasadena Police Department is Holding a DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, May 16, 2026

South Pasadena, Calif. – The South Pasadena Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on DUI arrest and crash data, the ability to maintain safety for motorists and officers, regard for traffic volume and impact to the area, and ample space for motorist screening and standardized field sobriety tests. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to educate the public about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Lieutenant Shannon Robledo said, “All judicially reviewed and constitutionally upheld prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads improves traffic safety.”

The South Pasadena Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
