Subject: South Pasadena Police Arrest Suspect for Felony Evading and DUI
South Pasadena, CA – On Friday, August 8, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., two officers from the South Pasadena Police Department observed a vehicle driving at a high speed and weaving in and out of lanes in the 1800 block of Fremont Avenue.
When the officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations, the driver accelerated and sped through a red light at Mission Street, prompting a vehicle pursuit. The officers pursued the vehicle as it continued northbound on Fremont Avenue and eventually onto the westbound 210 Freeway. A Pomona police helicopter was utilized to assist during the pursuit. Due to the suspect's excessive speed, the officers disengaged from the pursuit while the police helicopter continued to track the vehicle from the air.
The suspect exited onto the 2 Freeway interchange, stopped the vehicle, and fled on foot. Coordinating with the Pomona police helicopter, South Pasadena officers located the suspect on the freeway embankment and arrested him without further incident.
The suspect, Luis Lopez, 25, of Monrovia, was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested for felony evading and driving under the influence. Lopez was then transported to Pasadena City Jail for booking and housing.
