Subject: South Pasadena Public Library to Host First Death Café
South Pasadena, Calif. – The South Pasadena Public Library invites the community to its first Death Café on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room, located at 1115 El Centro Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030. The event will be hosted and facilitated by Emily Yacina, musical artist and Death Café facilitator, who has led multiple Death Cafés across Southern California.
A Death Café is an informal discussion group where participants talk openly about death without agenda, objectives, or themes. These gatherings are not grief support or counseling sessions but provide a respectful, accessible, and confidential space for conversation. Light refreshments will be served.
Death Cafés have grown rapidly across Europe, North America, and Australasia. Since September 2011, over 28,000 Death Cafés have been held in 97 countries, reflecting both the public’s curiosity about discussing death and the growing number of individuals passionate enough to organize their own gatherings. For more information, visit www.deathcafe.com.
This program is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. The Library is located at 1100 Oxley Street in South Pasadena. For information about services and programs, visit our website at www.southpasadenaca.gov/library. The Library is open Monday, Friday, Saturday 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
Upon request made no later than four (4) business days before the event, the City will provide a reasonable accommodation for a qualified person with a disability to have equal access to the event.
