Subject: Individual Rescued in South Pasadena After Falling from a Second Story Balcony Down a Ravine

South Pasadena, Calif. —  At approximately 5:52 pm on January 24, 2026, the South Pasadena Fire Department, along with units from the Pasadena and Glendale Fire Departments, were dispatched to a reported rescue in the 2000 block of Hanscom Drive in the City of South Pasadena.

The first arriving unit was advised that an individual had fallen from the second story of a hillside residence into the ravine below. Firefighter Paramedics accessed the patient, who was located approximately 200 feet down the hillside. The individual sustained significant injuries and was stabilized at the scene.

Urban Search and Rescue teams from the Pasadena and Glendale Fire Departments responded to assist, providing overhead lighting and establishing a rope rescue system to safely extricate the patient from the hazardous terrain.

The rescue operation took approximately one hour to access the patient and complete the extrication. The patient was then transferred to a waiting ambulance and transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital. An investigation from the South Pasadena Police Department determined that the fall was found to be accidental.
