Friendship Terrace Brings New Affordable Housing Units to the City

South Pasadena, Calif.— The City of South Pasadena and the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce are proud to welcome Friendship Terrace, a new affordable housing community developed by Pasadena Friendship Community Development Corporation.

Located at 626 Prospect Avenue in South Pasadena, the multifamily property will offer 12 units designated for moderate-income residents. Pasadena Friendship Community Development Corporation finalized the purchase of the property from Caltrans in 2024.

The site was previously owned by Caltrans as part of the proposed SR 710 freeway extension project—an effort officially canceled in 2019 following significant community opposition.

“We are beyond excited to have reached this milestone moment! All of the incredible work that our team has done has paid off in such a great way, and our partnership with the City of South Pasadena is a testimony of both faith and goodwill,” said Pastor Smith with the Pasadena Friendship Community Development Corporation. “In these days of contention and division, it is our hope that the Friendship Terrace will be a lasting witness to what can happen when differences are resolved for the betterment of our communities. When we commit to working together then great things can't help but to manifest themselves. The future is brighter for all of us because of this incredible partnership!”

“The City of South Pasadena celebrates and welcomes the Friendship Terrace community to our city,” said Mayor Janet Braun. “We congratulate Pasadena Friendship Community Development Corporation on its outstanding renovation of this former CalTrans property to provide 12 units of affordable housing in South Pasadena.  Projects such as Friendship Terrace reflect our community’s commitment to creating housing opportunities for all residents.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house will be held on Thursday, November 13 at 10:30 a.m. at 626 Prospect Avenue. Light refreshments will be provided. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in a covered area on-site.
