South Pasadena Police Arrest Shooting Suspect

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., South Pasadena Police Department officers responded to the 1000 block of Orange Grove Avenue regarding a welfare check for a male reportedly screaming for help. Upon arrival, officers contacted the individual and determined he was under the influence of narcotics. Paramedics were summoned to the scene to provide medical assistance.
While officers were on scene, the Communications Center received a separate report of possible gunshots heard in the 1000 block of Adelaine Avenue, along with a male subject observed running toward Orange Grove Avenue. Officers responded immediately, conducted a thorough check of the area, and found no victims. However, they recovered a black handgun in a backyard and located physical evidence confirming that a shooting had occurred.
Detectives initiated an investigation, subsequently executing a search warrant at a residence on Adelaine Avenue. During the search, four additional firearms were recovered.
Through follow-up investigation, it was determined that the individual contacted during the welfare check was the suspect involved in the shooting. He was identified as 53-year-old Peter Piriyakul of South Pasadena.
Following his release from the hospital, Piriyakul was arrested and booked for the following charges:
- Penal Code 246 – Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling
- Penal Code 29800(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
He was transported to the Los Angeles County Jail in Los Angeles, where he is currently being held pending arraignment.
