Suspect Arrested for Mail Theft

On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 1:44 a.m., a South Pasadena police officer observed an individual standing next to a United States Postal Service drop box in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue. After noticing the officer, the individual began walking away from the drop box. Upon closer inspection, the officer noticed opened mail on the ground near the drop box.
The officer detained the individual without incident. Following an investigation, officers discovered a mail theft fishing device with adhesive gel sticking out of the drop box along with other stolen mail. Officers arrested 24-year-old Elvis Lizama Pena of Los Angeles for mail theft.
Lizama Pena was booked at the South Pasadena Jail and later released with a citation. The case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
