Athens Rates
Annual Rate Adjustment
Waste collection rates are typically adjusted each year on July 1 to account for rising operational costs. However, as a result of recent contract negotiations between the City and Athens Services, the annual rate adjustments scheduled for July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026, have been waived. This means customers will see no changes to their waste collection rates until the next scheduled adjustment on July 1, 2027.

Temporary Bins/Roll-offs | Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris
Some situations require a temporary or roll-off bin, such as cleaning out your home (3-cubic yard bin), removing concrete or asphalt driveway (low profile 10-cubic yard bin) or construction projects (large 30-cubic yard roll-off).
Roll-off containers come in various sizes and are used for large volumes of material, such as construction and demolition debris. Substances like dirt, rock and concrete landscape debris must be disposed of using this type of container.
Athens Services offers temporary bins and roll-offs. Call Athens Customer Service to make a request.
Per the 2025 waste agreement, all construction and demolition debris in the City must be serviced by Athens Services beginning 2030.
Holiday Schedule
Collection of residential rubbish will be delayed by one day on all major holidays including: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving-both Thursday and Friday, Christmas and New Year's Day.

Holiday Tree Recycling
Holiday trees are 100% recyclable! Athens Services collects holiday trees each year during the three-week Collection period beginning January 2nd each calendar year. [Jan 2 - Jan 23]. Trees are delivered to various landfills to be used as mulch or cover material, or to Athens’ American Organics compost facility in Victorville.
Tips to ensure your tree is properly collected:
- Remove stands, ornaments, lights and tinsel.
- Place holiday trees next to your regular trash containers.
- Trees over 6 feet in length must be cut in half.
- Trees with flocking or fire retardants ARE NOT acceptable.
- If you miss the date for recycling, please cut up your tree and place it in your yard waste container(s).
Please help keep our parks clean and safe during the holidays. If you see anyone illegally dumping holiday trees, please call your city’s Police Department.
