Teen Volunteer Corps
The South Pasadena Public Library Teen Volunteer Corps (formerly known as Teen Advisory Board (TAB)) is a group of teens dedicated to helping out and improving the library. Teens earn community service hours by assisting at volunteer sessions and events.
There are three sessions of teen volunteering:
- Winter/Spring (January-May)
- Summer (May-August): Please see the Summer Reading Program tab for more information on volunteering during the Summer.
- Fall/Winter (September-December)
Projects include:
- Cleaning books, toys, computers, and tables
- Dusting shelves
- Prepping crafts for story time
- Setting up and cleaning up for library events
- Filling book displays
Requirements:
- Volunteers must be in 7th-12th grades.
- Sign-up for a South Pasadena Public Library card is highly encouraged but not required. (NOTE: A parent or legal guardian must sign their teen’s library card application)
- Volunteer a minimum of 10 hours each session. Volunteer dates will be primarily on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (around 3:30 PM-6:00 PM), and some Saturdays at various times. Dates and times may change, depending on the library's needs. A complete list of dates and times will be made available on Sign Up Genius once volunteers have been accepted.
Application Process:
- The recruitment period for the Fall/Winter 2025 volunteer session is closed. Please click below to be added to our interest list to apply to volunteer in Winter/Spring 2026 (late January-early May). We will contact you in early January 2026 when applications open.
- All volunteers (new and returning) must complete and submit an application for each session they wish to participate in.
- New volunteers must be interviewed by the children's librarian.
- Volunteers are evaluated using the following criteria:
- Reliability
- Initiative
- Punctuality
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Maturity
- Integrity
- Enthusiasm
- Due to the high volume of applicants, returning volunteers are NOT guaranteed a spot.
- If applicants are not accepted the first time they apply, they are encouraged to try again in another session.
