How it Works

Use the online catalog to request up to ten items.
(Watch our short video tutorial on how to place holds.)

Use our Materials Matchmaker recommendation service by completing the online request form.

Call the reference desk at (626) 403-7350 for assistance.

When your items are ready you will receive a phone call or email stating that the items are available for pick-up. Items will be held for 3 business days.

Once you receive the “Order is Ready” call, come to the Library during Takeout hours to pick up your items.

When you arrive, wait in the designated area at the Library Main Entrance on Oxley Street.

Make sure to wear your cloth face covering and maintain 6' of distance from others!

A staff member will ask for your name and birth month and date, retrieve your bag, and place it on the Takeout table.

Once the staff member has safely backed away, retrieve your Library Takeout bag from the table.

Items are due in 3 weeks and can be returned in the Library book drops at your convenience. Items will automatically be renewed twice, as long as they are not on hold for another customer. To receive due date reminder and auto-renewal notices, make sure your email address is up-to-date in your account.

(Watch our short video tutorial on how to add or update your email address.)

Please do not return the Takeout bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety measures are in place for community members and library staff?
The health and safety of our community members and staff continues to be our top priority. The Library is following LA County and CDC guidelines . The no-contact pick-up model we are using provides maximum social distancing for the safety of both patrons and staff. Materials will be quarantined for at least 72 hours before they are allowed to be checked-out again.

I returned my items, but my account says they are still checked-out?
While we are making every effort to check in materials immediately, taking care takes time. Continue to check your account for updated account information. If items you returned are still on your account after 3 business days, call the Library at (626) 403-7340, or email us at, and a staff member will assist you.

How long will it take for my requests to be filled?
To support social distancing efforts, we are operating with limited staff. We will fill your requests as quickly as possible but wait times may be longer than usual. Thanks for your patience.

I checked out my items using Library Takeout, when are my items due?
All items checked out with Library Takeout services are due three weeks from the date your items are available for pick-up. You can view your due dates by logging into your account.

Will my items automatically renew?
Yes, the Library is now providing auto-renewal for eligible items. As long as items are not on hold for another borrower, and have not reached their limit of two renewals, they will automatically renew for another three weeks on their due date. While you will receive an email with renewal information, you can always check your account status by visiting your online account. Make sure you have a current email address saved in your account. It is easy to add or update your email address. Watch our short video tutorial for assistance.

Is the Library currently charging late fees?
Late fees are suspended through August 31, 2020.

Can I ask someone else to pick up my items?
You can have a family member, friend or neighbor pick up your material.  They will need to provide us with your name and birth month and date at the time of pick-up.
Should I clean Library items after I check them out?
With our current knowledge of safe material handling, quarantining library materials for at least three days is the most effective method of disinfecting them. Materials returned to the Library have been quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before they are considered for re-circulation. If you are concerned about the safety of the items you have checked out and wish to further disinfect them, you may wipe down mylar book covers, AV cases, and discs with common household disinfecting wipes, and let them air dry. Please do not spray cleaner or disinfectant directly on Library materials!

What if I no longer want to check out the items I have on hold?
Visit your online account to cancel holds or call the Reference Desk at (626) 403-7350.

What if I already have items on hold?
You may request a total of 10 items. For example, if you already have 5 unavailable materials on hold, you may request an additional 5 available items for Library Takeout.

Can I donate books to the Friends of the Library at this time?
The Friends of the Library are currently closed and are not accepting any donations at this time.
